Two kinds of noise
Impact noise
Footsteps, dropped objects and furniture moving. It travels through the structure of the floor and is reduced by resilient layers that decouple the walking surface from the floor below.
Airborne noise
Voices, music and television. It is reduced by mass and by sound-absorbing insulation, such as mineral wool, in the floor or ceiling void.
Our approach
Every building is different, so we start from the existing floor and the height available. A soundproofing build-up normally combines resilient layers, acoustic insulation and additional boarding. Details such as gaps, edges and pipe penetrations matter as much as the materials.
Where you are converting a property or building a new dwelling, sound insulation between homes is covered by Approved Document E of the Building Regulations. We can install to the specification prepared by your designer or building control.
